More important than any job, dream, or opportunity — my desire to be used by the Lord has always been my first priority. In Matthew 6:33 Yeshua (Jesus) said “Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.” I make it my goal to always seek the kingdom first, and one way we do that is by serving (ministering) to others. I have served in nearly every position in ministry short of senior pastor, from the age of 8 to 27. But the biggest moments of ministry haven’t been in a church or on a stage, but in the day to day moments and conversations. I chose from a young age to make the decision to use every opportunity and every gift I have to serve others. By doing so, I serve Christ. That is the foundation of everything that I do in life. I live to serve.

Broken Breakthroughs - I deliver a Christmas message at Redirection Church in 2020.

Dirty Deliverance - I brought a in August 2021 at A small gathering off Terry Road in south Jackson.

  • Youth Director

I was invited to this church off Clinton BLVD by the lady who cleaned the floors at the Chick Fil A where I was working. She heard my music and said I should come do something for the youth. I was eager to do so, and worked to plan a youth event. During planning I was connected with some people from a street ministry called Team Go Urban Ministry. They primarily focused on sharing the gospel through Hiphop and Urban Dance. We worked together to create an amazing night of worship in a way the youth could easily relate to full of rappers, mime dancers, and even poets. I ended up joining Team Go shortly after, which was a historic moment for the ministry as I was both the youngest member and also the first who did not identify as African American. Due to my busy work schedule and ever increasing demand, I was not able to ever step into my role as youth director, but I never forgot the impact of those few months.

  • Worship Leader

After making some friends at a small group from Word of Life Church, I began attending a small Tuesday night bible study with a church off Terry Rd in South Jackson. It was a unique storefront church, Pastored by a Interracial couple who loved the Lord and had a heart for the young people of Jackson. I served for a few months as their worship leader, and was also blessed to minister a couple sermons to the congregation. Again, my busy schedule and my heart for street ministry led me to step down from that role and continue serving with Team Go.

  • Artist and Minister

As a rapper and minister I fit right in with Team Go. We went around Jackson ministering through music, feeding and clothing the homeless, and preaching the gospel in the darkest places of the city. In places where the light was needed the most. Raymond Detention Center, Virden & Washington Addition, Flag Chapel Rd, Queens, Terry Road, and many other places most ministers wouldn’t choose to go.

My favorite memory with them was serving weekly at Canopy Children’s Home off Woodrow Wilson. Once a month we would come on a Sunday morning and do a service for the youth. We would perform our music, play games, and share a short message from God’s word. We would stay afterwards to eat with them and play sports, video games, and whatever else they enjoyed. I chose to come during week-days as well to play ball with them, watch sports, and share my story. I got to build some special relationships with them and see many of them grow and make it out.

Unite MS

In 2019, Through mutual connections I became involved with a group of people led by Chip Miskelly and a group of pastors who had a vision to unite Mississippi churches for evangelism and discipleship across the state. The first big move of this collaborative initiative was to host a Night of Unity in Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. I was part of the committee for reaching youth and young adults, and acted as a consultant. I organized commercials, developed marketing strategies, and I was asked to be the opening performer in the stadium that night. At the time I was the young adult and worship pastor at Redirection Church, so I chose to include our team of young adults in my performance. It was truly an amazing moment. Pastor Tony Evens delivered a power message of Biblical unity, and we saw thousands of Mississippians from all denominations worshipping together in Jackson.

  • Young Adult Pastor

I met the senior Pastor through the Unite MS collaboration. He had been looking for someone to launch a young adult ministry in his church of about 150 people. After a long conversation and prayer, I made the decision to join the church and accept the position. Within 3 months we had over 25 active young adults, with many of them joining our worship team. We had such an engagement that we were meeting almost daily on campus playing basketball, video games, fellowshipping, and worshipping together. We created an environment where it was safe to have fun and learn about Christ at the same time. During this time we saw multiple salvations, baptisms, and rededications to Christ.

  • Worship Pastor

Our pastor asked us as leaders to have someone trained, and able to take our place within six months. He believed that leaders should build leaders, and no department should be completely reliant on one person. Within 5 months, our worship pastor resigned, and I was asked to fill her place. By now, I had already been training and discipling one of our young adults and he was becoming a big part of our impact in the young adult ministry. I accepted the position as worship pastor and passed the young adult ministry onto him, which he expanded and grew.

As worship pastor I made many changes to take us forward. I created a comprehensive code of conduct, introduced new planning and personnel management technology, incorporated all live musicians and singers instead of simply performing over youtube tracks, and began hosting a weekly devotion and team building time in addition to our weekly rehearsal. We saw a huge expansion in our church and our worship ministry, and we began writing and performing our own original songs. Our team grew to the point where we had to begin rotating members weekly because we didn’t have enough room on stage.

I then appointed one of our team members as the production director and began focusing on increasing our production quality. While I worked for U-Haul, I would work from my pastors office so I could take my break during rehearsals and lead the teams. We saw our church growing and thriving, and during this time we acquired a permanent building, and relocated to a spot off Lakeland Dr, in Jackson.

Our pastor had a vision to create a night of worship that we called “Fusion Night” where young adults of all kinds from different churches would meet to worship and fellowship together. We built a collaborative team to lead worship, speak, and host the event. I reached out to a local latino church and worked to build a collective to lead bi-lingual worship and deliver the sermon in both Spanish and English.

We also incorporated rap performances, mime dance, and spoken word before entering a time of contemporary worship and ministry. We saw many lives impacted and we were averaging 60-100 people per event, many who were not regular members of our church.

  • Online Pastor, Production Director

COVID hit, and as many churches experienced this unprecedented challenge, we made the decision to stay open but offer a more extensive online experience to those who were not comfortable meeting in person. In order to accommodate this drastic shift, our pastor asked me to step into a new role as our online Pastor.

During this time I redesigned our website to become more interactive and engaging, updated our social media, and changed the way we did our production. This included overseeing the installation of a new media and camera system, adding a dedicated broadcast audio system, and creating a team dedicated to social media engagement and outreach.

  • Once people began returning, and our production & media teams were running smoothly, I was asked to step back into a role as our music director to serve with a new worship pastor. During this time I worked with her to implement more new systems, training for worship team members, and an updated code of conduct and team manual. We also began to write original songs again, so I led the writing sessions and worked as the producer on these songs.

We worked together to take our team to the next level, and near the end of my time there we had written about 20 original songs together as a team.

  • Worship Leader/Musician

During the end of my time at Redirection I joined Word of Life as a guest worship leader on several Sundays, also serving as a musician on occasion when I was not needed at my home church. My pastor had always championed my music and ministry career, and never kept me from accepting opportunities outside of our church. I was always grateful for this, and it allowed me to impact many people and build great relationships with people in other spaces.

  • FOH Audio Engineer - HiCo Campus

Without knowing I would receive an offer to work as the audio engineer at their new campus, I had recently spoken with my Pastor and asked for his blessing to leave Redirection Church. I felt I was entering a new season, and that the Lord was moving me in a new direction. It was a bittersweet moment, but a beautiful one. Little did I know a week later I would be asked to join Word of Life’s newest campus as their lead Audio Engineer. During this time I worked tirelessly to improve their audio experience, built good relationships with the band and singers, and crafted a quality sound for this campus.

• Main Campus - Broadcast Audio Engineer

Midway into 2022, I got the call to join the main broadcast campus as their broadcast engineer. I accepted this position, and began mixing audio for the church’s online livestream broadcast which reaches thousands of people across the world. During my time in this role I revamped the entire system to make it more efficient, once spending a 12 hour day to reroute the entire 128 input system with their FOH engineer. We wanted a system that worked cohesively from Front of House to Broadcast, and we built it. I also increased our capacity for music tracks, and expanded it in a way that would create a more immersive, realistic mix.

I also made recommendations for new microphones, to increase clarity and clearness in vocals. The team immediately voiced their approval after noticing the difference, and it made our job as engineers much easier. I remained in this role until my contract expired near the end of the year, at which time I then contracted at their Fondren campus in Duling Hall.

During this time I redesigned our website to become more interactive and engaging, updated our social media, and changed the way we did our production. This included overseeing the installation of a new media and camera system, adding a dedicated broadcast audio system, and creating a team dedicated to social media engagement and outreach.

  • Minister of Music

A friend connected me with a church in need of a worship leader, and I took a position as their minister of music. Immediate issues and needs were obvious, and after speaking with the Pastors I came in with a clear vision. I reorganized, redesigned, and retuned their sound system. I implemented new methods and technology for the music team, and I began training and coaching existing team members, and recruited new members as well to join.

Within a month, I was offered a raise and tasked with expanding the team. We continued to make improvements, adding to our team, and raising the standard of excellence. My wife was pregnant during this time, and I ended up resigning to focus on supporting her during her final trimester.

  • Interim Worship Pastor

Mid 2023, I joined The Well Church in McComb as their interim worship pastor during an unexpected transition from their previous leader. When I came in, they had no production director, a couple musicians and singers, and a very challenging sound system.

I began discipling and building relationships with team members, and hosted auditions for new team members to join. Within 6 months, we doubled the size of our teams.

  • Music & Production Director

Within my first 3 months, I created a new system, added a weekly devotion time to our rehearsals, and began training and coaching our team members. I was asked by our pastors to step into a dual role focusing on the development of our musicians and the improvement of our production department. I worked to completely redesign our sound and music systems, and also completed an extensive inventory of every piece of production and music equipment we had.

I reorganized both our stage and production booth, created new policies and procedures for team members, and extensively trained team members. We saw immediate improvement in production quality, and team morale. I worked to troubleshoot various technical issues while making recommendations for upgrades and new equipment purchases.

Within 9 months, we had a fully functional music and production team; and we also saw great growth spiritually among our team members. However, this church is based in McComb and when I made the decision to stay in Jackson and run for mayor it quickly became evident that i could not remain committed to my role in leadership.

After some hard conversations and much prayer, I made the decision to resign from leadership, and shift my focus entirely to serving our community here in Jackson, and preparing for my mayoral campaign. I agreed to stay an additional month to allow a smooth transition to the new worship pastor. In speaking with him he said “I wish you could stay, but I understand. I was here 3 years ago and I know what you had to work with. You took an old beater and handed me the keys to a Mercedes Benz”. In all my time in ministry this had to be the best compliment I have ever received.

Our pastors informed the church of our departure with prayer and an outpouring of love, and I went home to Jackson for the first time in many years not knowing what was next, where I would serve, or what I would be doing on a Sunday.
